Activity1
Setting up this blog!
We hope you are enjoying finding out about STEM in Scoil Chlann Naofa. Most of the pictures, videos and work you are looking at is what the pupils have recorded and taken themselves.

Green Schools Day of Action
Pictured below is our Green Schools Day of Action for Litter and Waste. We are in the first year of a two year cycle as Scoil Chlann Naofa. Children from the class used iPads to record our day for showing on the main school blog as well as here on our Scoil Chlann Naofa STEM blog.

Activity 3

Technology: Our class (4th/5th class- Mrs. Shannon's Room) have been very involved in Green Schools as we endeavour to achieve the Litter and Waste Award. (Scoil Chlann Naofa is a brand new school so we are back at the Green Schools beginning but it has been even more important this time especially in relation to plastic pollution!)
We have been using the StopGo Animation App along with iMovie to make a short animation to persuade all to stop littering and start caring about our planet. See Layah's below.

Activity 4
Class: 3rd
Mrs Gallagher has been visiting Mr McKeon's 3rd class to work on a Lego Wedo project. They downloaded the app to the iPads and had great fun getting it up and going. See our pictures below

Coding takes in many strands of the Science and maths curriculum. It encompasses much of what we are trying to do with STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) this year in Scoil Chlann Naofa. Coding teaches children how to problem solve, how to think logically and how to be creative. We are going to invest in a pack of Lego Wedos for our school as well as Beebots so that we can implement our Digital Learning Plan (following teacher training) beginning in September 2019.

Technology: Green Schools
The children of 4th and 5th graphed the weight of our rubbish bins and recycling bins over the last two terms. This was done on powerpoint in an attempt to encourage the pupils to continue to reduce, reuse and recycle as part of our Litter and Waste theme.

On our day of Action we gathered lots of rubbish from all over the grounds of our new school. Some of it had been there over twenty years, including crisp packets found by Mark and Fabian from 6th class. We had trouble weighing it precisely so we decided to get the weights of our bins from Barna Waste Company. Check out our graph below.
